Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate #212, April 2014
Austria 2012: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling & Co.
Under the Sign of Sunshine — David Schildknecht
Langenlois Seeberg, Erste Lage, Riesling Kamptal DAC Reserve 2012 – 93 points
“The Loimer 2012 Riesling Seeberg was vinified in both cask and tank, but its entirety spent at least some time in the former. A fascinating nose of green apple, cilantro, sea oats, as well as a greenhouse-like mingling of leafy and floral things ushers in a rather typical Austrian Riesling performance insofar as there is a veritable surge of flavors on the palate out of proportion to the chamber music dimensions of the nose, with infectious juiciness, polish and gloss suppressing any tendency toward austerity that might otherwise accrue to a wine featuring herbal piquancy, firm underlying feel, and underlying stoniness. The bittersweet profusion of inner-mouth floral perfume here puts me in mind of the great Achleiten, as does the transparency of luscious apple, sweet lime and white peach to refined mineral nuances that seem to shimmer in a long, metaphorically cooling, at once soothing and stimulating finish. Use of barrel seems to have enhanced the wine’s texture without damping its clarity or nuance; if anything, to the contrary. And close to six grams residual sugar plays an undoubtedly supportive role.”

Langenlois Steinmassl, Erste Lage, Riesling Kamptal DAC Reserve 2012 – 92 points
“Loimer’s 2012 Riesling Steinmassl smells bracingly of salt spray, lemon rind, quarry dust and ripe peach, leading to a firm, polished palate where parsnip and peach fuzz join the already mentioned elements found in the nose for a rousingly invigorating performance, with white pepper, walnut oil, crushed stone and a cyanic glow of peach kernel enhancing a sense of piquancy, energy and grip.”

Zöbing Heiligenstein, Erste Lage, Riesling Kamptal DAC Reserve 2012 – 90+ points
“Loimer’s 2012 Riesling Heiligenstein – which, like all of his top wines, was sealed with a glass stopper – proved reduced in its aromatic pungency and palate reticence, even after an hour open. But there is clearly a lot to like even as we wait for the reduction to lift. Juicy apple and lime are tinged with resinous sage as well as piquantly cyanic citrus and apple pips on a firm palate and in a clear, juicy, and vibratory if austere finish. This will definitely merit another tasting this year or next. It shows very promising energy and sheer grip, and might well prove worth following for more than a decade.”

Langenlois Spiegel, Erste Lage, Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC Reserve 2012 – 90 points
“Following a whiff of reduction that quickly shakes off, Loimer 2012 Grüner Veltliner Spiegel reveals an understated but rewardingly rich display of roasted red pepper, bacon-larded lentil, and celeriac. Firm but glossy in feel, this casts a refreshingly juicy, subtly piquant, smoky spell on the palate, finishing with a stimulatingly fresh vegetable edge.”

Langenlois Käferberg, Erste Lage, Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC Reserve 2012 – 89 points
“A surprisingly prominent note of bruised green apple hits the nose from Loimer’s barrel-raised 2012 Grüner Veltliner Kaferberg, behind which come intimations of the green herbs and black pepper that pungently and incisively impinge on a glossy and expansive if beneath it all fundamentally firm palate. While a hint of malic hardness emerges in the finish, positive peppery persistence allied to primary juiciness wins out. This should prove versatile at table – especially with vegetable dishes – through 2017, and may well acquire greater complexity and charm as it develops a patina.”

Langenlois Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC 2012 – 88 points
“Subdued yet pungent scents and flavors of lemon zest, grapefruit, and artichoke inform the delicate (12% alcohol) basic Kamptal 2012 Grüner Veltliner from Loimer, which exhibits delightful juiciness and finishes with not only a piquant reprise of lemon rind and artichoke but also of roasted red pepper.”

Langenlois Riesling Kamptal DAC 2012 – 88 points
“Loimer’s generic Kamptal 2012 Riesling exhibits the understated, nuanced impression that proved to characterize all of his Rieslings from this vintage collection. A greenhouse-like melange of floral and herbal aromas, lime and apple against a background of wet stone and alkalinity sets the themes for a clear, juicy, buoyant palate performance, firm but polished, and leading to a refreshing and subtly lingering finish whose faintly malic ‘catch’ serves for tangy invigoration.”

Langenlois Pinot Noir 2011 – 88 points
“Loimer’s 2011 Pinot Noir Langenlois – representing his principle estate bottling from this grape and formerly labeled ‘Terrassen’ – delivers tart, juicy fresh cherry fruit tinged with piquancy of pits and underlain by stone. Fine-grained tannins enhance the invigoration administered in an energetic and protracted if faintly austere finish.”

Langenlois Dechant Pinot Noir 2011 – 87 points
“The Loimer 2011 Pinot Noir Dechant incorporates considerable frontal astringency as well a superficial smokiness and toastiness from barrel, though it presents an admirable core of ripe cherry fruit, and perhaps its “structural” elements will become less obtrusive with some time in bottle.”

1. place for Zweigelt Langenlois
Dr. Zweigelt Preis
On November 22, the so called 'Kamptaler Weinnacht' took place in the premises of Schloss Grafenegg where the winners of 'Dr. Zweigelt Preis', a Zweigelt competition, were announced. Our Zweigelt Langenlois 2011 convinced the jury in the category 'classical Zweigelt'. We're very proud of the first place!

Zweigelt Langenlois 2011:
Pure fruit in the nose, cherry and sour cherry, spices, well integrated oak, subtle hints of caramel, youthful tones, complex, multi-layered and intense, silky and dense texture, very pleasurable!

Seeberg Riesling 2011 proofs world class
Meininger's 'best of Riesling' tasting - 3rd place!
We proudly announce that Langenlois Seeberg Riesling Kamptal DAC Reserve 2011 is among the best - wineries from 11 countries participated at the international tasting 'Best of Riesling 2013' of 'Meininger', our Seeberg Riesling reached the 3rd place!

Langenlois Seeberg Riesling Kamptal DAC Reserve 2011:
Light golden-yellow colour, intriguing nose of flowers, stonefruit, attractive intensity, youthful aroma, salty touch, lively acidity on the palate, layered elements of apricot, fresh peach and ripe lime, great fruit intensity on the mid-palate, the acidity-fruit play very balanced, lengthy, crisp, yet ripe finish which indicates long aging potential.

Achtung! Gemischter Satz 2011
Orange Wine
In 2006 and 2007 we produced Orange Wine for the first time. The grapes were from our vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen, the traditional varieties from the Thermenregion such as Rotgipfler and Zierfandler. Since a few weeks NEW - ACHTUNG! GEMISCHTER SATZ 2011 from Zöbing Eichelberg, a site in the Kamptal region:

Gemischter Satz of Grüner and Roter Veltliner, Weißer and Roter Riesling, Welschriesling; fermentation on skins for 11 weeks, prior to pressing and further maturation in oak cask for a period of 10 months; the wine was then moved into stainless steel tanks, where it rested on its fine lees for further 8 months; bottled unfiltered in April 2013.

Tasting notes:
Intriguing intense yellow-orange colour, high-toned aromas of pines, exotic yellow fruit and spices, lifted; a full basket on the front-palate, great concentration of ripe pear, oranges and zesty lemon-peel, full-bodied, a grippy tension which keeps the wine much alive until the long, lingering finish. An absolute demanding wine that requires attention (Achtung!) but brings full enjoyment when served in the right moment with the right people.
Perfect companion with lamb as well as meat dishes.

Käferberg and Spiegel 2011 - 17.5 and 17 points!
Jancis Robinson tasted Käferberg and Spiegel 2011
Great degustation notice and rating for our Erste Lage Grüner Veltliner - Käferberg and Spiegel Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC Reserve 2011 from Julia Harding, MW, Jancis Robinson:

Spiegel - 17.5 points: A perfect combination of stones and citrus on the nose where the aromas cannot be disentangled. There's also a dustiness that reminds of Chablis even though the minerality here is more oily and powerful. Dry and decisive on the palate, cleansing and long. Lightly spicy and beautifully focused with a delicate creaminess rounding out the finish. Brilliant!

Käferberg - 17 points: Riper, more orange citrus on the nose than any so far from this type of terroir. Cool, crisp and clear. Peppery and dancing on the palate. Mouthwatering length.

Jancis Robinson 12 May 2014
Racy, quite slender at this stage. Biodynamic grapes and spontaneous fermentation. Correct but still too young to really enjoy.
